If you don’t want to worry about charging and swapping batteries in a 7-volt glove, and/or are looking for more than a couple hours of heat per ride, then Gerbing’s new 12-volt glove liners are worth a look.
True: Riding with 12-volt gear that plugs into your bike can be a real pain in the ass. Also true: Riding with 12-volt gear that plugs into your bike is THE best way to stay comfortable and in control when outside temperatures are too cold to ride with conventional cold-weather gloves.
At some point in the season, all the layers in the world won’t save you, unless you go nuclear with heated gear.
Gerbing has long offered two standard 12-volt glove options, , and the recently restocked . Both are built from sturdy leather backed with hard knuckle armor, 3M Thinsulate insulation, and a wind/waterproof liner built in.
Now Gerbing has a third 12-volt hand-toaster option with this new low-profile glove liner that integrates its patented Microwire heating element in a form factor that will work with most gloves you already own.
Sizing note: These are super thin and low-profile, but they're not non-existent. You'll need a little bit of extra room in the fit of whatever gloves you use over these liners. If you're using a , or , then you can expect the hide to stretch out a fraction of a size after regular use with this liner.
As with Gerbing's other gloves, you'll want to pick up a to manage power output, as well as a required $12 battery harness. We highly recommend going with a dual-zone controller setup so you can a control jacket liner and gloves separately, like a dual zone thermostat.
If you're running the glove liners on their own you'll also need a to connect the gloves. But if you get a , the wiring harness is included and the jacket comes with pre-wired sleeves for no-hassle glove compatibility.
